Tain Drinkwater has joined the Newcastle Jets as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), taking up the role on May 1st. A Lake Macquarie born and raised woman with a deep connection to the Hunter Valley, Drinkwater brings broad experience and a sound leadership background in both elite sport and mining resource industries.

Most recently, Drinkwater was Executive General Manager – Performance and Pathways at the National Rugby League (NRL), where she was instrumental in developing the NRLW competition, adding the Las Vegas 9's tournament, and establishing a talent combine. Her strategic drive and ability to grow will be important strengths as she makes the transition to her new position with the Jets.
Maverick Sports Partners Executive Director Maurice Bisetto welcomed Drinkwater's appointment, citing her senior management background and leadership experience. "With more than 20 years' experience in executive positions, Tain brings significant knowledge, innovation, and strategic vision that will be invaluable as we continue to build the Newcastle Jets," said Bisetto.
Drinkwater herself is excited to be back in her roots and to lead the Jets. She understands the club's strong affinity with the Newcastle and Hunter communities and has stated her desire to build on that. "I am thrilled to be coming back to Newcastle and to lead the Newcastle Jets. The club has a rich history in the region, and we want to make it something that the community can be proud of," she said.
With the backing of Maverick Sports Partners, Drinkwater is determined to drive the Jets' long-term success, with hopes to take the club to become one of the premier sporting institutions in Australia.
