EWEC partners with ADNEC Group to power centre Abu Dhabi with 100% clean energy
The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) will power the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi entirely on 100 percent renewable energy. It will be the first and largest fully clean-energy-powered venue in the Middle East as this significant partnership today sets a benchmark for decarbonization in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) sector in the UAE.
The agreement was signed in the presence of the senior representatives of both organizations- Othman Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer at EWEC, and Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group. The initiative will ensure 100% of the venue's grid power is generated from EWEC's renewable energy sources verified by Clean Energy Certificates issued by Abu Dhabi's Department of Energy.
This partnership would help the ADNEC Centre to move towards renewable energy so that carbon emissions from major events hosted at the venue is reduced; this will support the ADNEC Group in its leadership role in sustainable event management.
Othman Al Ali said that he is thrilled with the collaboration as it supports the UAE's clean energy transition process and allows companies to reduce their scope 2 emissions. He noted that this initiative aligns with the UAE’s net-zero targets and reflects EWEC's commitment to sustainable practices.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri added that this is also significant for the tourism sector in terms of sustainability and reiterates Abu Dhabi's status as a hub of sustainable events.
EWEC is supporting organizations in their efforts at reducing carbon footprint through the DoE's CEC scheme, which issues tradable digital certificates that certify the environmental benefits of consumption of clean energy. This initiative forms an important component of the UAE's strategic aim at achieving a net-zero-emission state by 2050.
