Ease, in collaboration with Ikani Consulting and PNOAT, installs Africa's first advanced PET-CT scanner, enhancing healthcare access.
Ease, in collaboration with Ikani Consulting as Nuclear Med Group and Precision Nuclear Oncology and Theranostics (PNOAT), has installed the most advanced PET-CT scanner at the PNOAT facility in Rustenburg, North West province, South Africa. This marks the second installation of advanced medical technology in the region by Ease. The new PET-CT scanner is the first of its kind in Africa and is set to expand healthcare access across Southern Africa.
The PET-CT scanner integrates Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography, allowing clinicians to visualize diseases at the cellular level, thereby facilitating early diagnosis, customized treatment plans, and the real-time monitoring of treatment efficacy, especially regarding treatment for cancer, neurological, and cardiac conditions.
This installation allows for advanced cancer imaging for more than 5.4 million people living in North West province and in neighboring Zambia, Namibia, and Botswana. Patients henceforth will no longer need to travel long distances for specialized care; this is going to minimize costs and increase health outcomes. The pay-per-use facility model Ease has designed will afford health providers the opportunity to obtain and use high technology equipment, thereby making modern medical technologies accessible throughout Africa.
Imraan Soomra, CEO of Ease, pointed out that such models would be the ones that would see patients of other fellow Africans be given access to life-saving medical equipment. With previous installations in South Africa and Ghana, Ease would continue to broaden its reach by providing innovative solutions to improve the delivery of healthcare.
According to Phumudzo Nemutaduni, a nuclear physician at Nuclear Med Group, the PET CT will add immensely to the degree of diagnosis, especially for cancer patients, and improve care delivery in areas that have been neglected. The partnership between Ease and Nuclear Med Group is a vital stepping stone in ensuring equal access to healthcare across the continent, stimulating inclusive growth, and enhancing patient care through advanced medical technologies.
