United Airlines' agreement to lease 20 Boeing 737 MAX jets, supports fleet strategy, fuel efficiency, and customer experience.
United Airlines has signed a purchase and rental agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital for 20 new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that are expected to be delivered by the end of 2026. After the previous deals for 20 Airbus A321neo jets and 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. This is the third major deal between the two businesses.
The agreement took place after United recently signed an agreement with DAE for ten Boeing 737 MAX 9 jets that are expected to be delivered within February 2026. Purchase and leaseback agreements allow airlines to sell airplanes to financial institutions while quickly renting them back, freeing up funds for other needs. "This deal improves our fleet strategy and allows us to offer better customer experiences," said Michael Leskinen, United's Chief Financial Officer. "We truly value our strong and lasting connection with SMBC Aviation Capital and their support in advancing our fleet," Leskinen added.
The partnership supports United Airlines to upgrade its fleet, fuel efficiency, and improve customer experiences. The partnership and investments in modern aircraft and funding suggest United Airlines' dedication to green aviation. Supporting airline to handle the increasing passenger demand while reducing environmental impact. This paves the way for a more effective, safer, and futuristic air travel industry.
