With two crucial home games ahead, San Francisco aims for home-field advantage and a Super Bowl berth.
The San Francisco 49ers have clinched a place in the NFC playoff picture since they were victorious against the Indianapolis Colts and gained some help from the Pittsburgh Steelers with their win against the Detroit Lions on Sunday evening. The 49ers (11-4) are now focused on achieving a higher ambition, being the number one seed in the NFC. To accomplish this, they have a innovative straightforward plan; win both of their remaining home games against the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks to clinch the NFC West division and grant themselves home field advantage and leadership throughout the playoffs.
The Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium provides yet another incentive for the team today, if they achieve the top position in the playoffs, they will be able to complete their playoff journey without leaving their home field. Although the 49ers have been doing well recently, they have to contend with the fact that both the Bears and Seahawks are much tougher opponents than they have had in the past with the Colts; however, with that said, the 49ers are finding their rhythm, and they have not punted in over 133 minutes of game play.
The game was designed to be an electric offensive shootout and it did not disappoint as the 49ers established an early lead after making a huge defensive play (takeaway) early in the first quarter. Colts returner Ameer Abdullah lost control of the ball when he was stripped by 49ers Safety Ji'Ayir Brown. Brown was able to flip Abdullah to the ground resulting in a turnover. 49ers Tight End Jake Tonges picked up the fumble on the Colts’ 26 yard line. This gave the 49ers the opportunity to score a touchdown and put them on top of the Colts 14-7. With their sights now on the playoffs and a desire to go far into the postseason the 49ers want to continue to build on their strong start.
