Bitcoin and Ethereum face resistance as crypto market sentiment shifts bearish amid institutional outflows.
The crypto market is seeing tremendous challenges, with sentiment moving from neutral to bearish, analysts observe. Leading cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) have recently plunged below major support levels, and altcoins are displaying the absence of collective momentum. The volatility continues to be an indication of the doubts in the overall market, compounded by changing macroeconomic conditions.
The recent words from the US Federal Reserve Chair have created a further complexity, with the focus being on stability in the labor market rather than a fiercely intense inflation battle. This dovish shift has resulted in markets pricing in further rate cuts throughout the year, which would give short-term relief to risk assets, including Bitcoin. Yet the overall market is still being cautious, with ETF flows continuing to report a significant downturn. On September 23, Bitcoin funds witnessed $103.8 million in withdrawals, and Ethereum products witnessed a sharper $140.8 million exodus, indicating a decline in the institutional demand for riskier assets.
Bitcoin's short-term resistance now stands at $113,600–$114,000, with analysts warning that missing this area could leave the cryptocurrency vulnerable to further losses, potentially down to $110,500 or even as far down as $107,500. As of the last update, Bitcoin traded at $112,643, down 0.27% over the last 24 hours, with a trading volume spike to $50.26 billion. This notwithstanding, Bitcoin's market capitalization remains unchanged at $2.24 trillion, solidifying its stronghold on the crypto market.
Ethereum too is in the pressure zone, lagging below $4,220 and encountering resistance around the $4,280–$4,370 area. At current levels, ETH lags 15% from its latest high of $4,953. Without a break, Ethereum may see deeper corrections to the $3,880–$3,750 zone. Both Bitcoin and Ethereum are charting rough waters with sentiment remaining guarded, with low conviction on either side.
