iOS 26 offers smoother, faster translation than Galaxy AI, despite fewer language options.
Apple's Live Translation function on iOS 26 is creating a buzz, providing real-time translations during phone calls, FaceTime, and Messages. With iPhone 16 Pro Max on iOS 26 it was compared with Samsung's Galaxy AI Live Translate found on the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The outcome is quite enlightening.
iOS 26 currently only supports four languagesX: Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French but it is extremely easy to use. The application superimposes translations during calls, much in the same way an interpreter would speak over the call. It feels natural and smooth. Even when there were mistakes in translating, the feature did not fail, providing a smooth experience for everyday conversations.
Conversely, Galaxy AI accommodates 25+ languages, hence it more diverse. As good as it is at translations, its latency in translating is disruptive. Galaxy AI only translates once the caller has stopped talking, leaving the conversation slightly uncomfortable. Sadly, it also does not support the scrolling translations in real time like iOS 26 does.
In testing, iOS 26 prevailed in terms of user experience, although with some minor hurdles of translation errors. The translations were faster and easier to read, and seeing the translations in a chat-like presentation in Messages made the experience more conversational. Galaxy AI, while accurate, is slower in performance and usage. Overall iOS 26 has a more natural and smooth translation experience of phone calls and conversations. With fewer languages supported, it triumphs in usability and becomes a very viable player in the realm of translation software.
