Sanas has filed a federal lawsuit against Krisp Technologies for patent infringement and trade secret theft related to its real-time accent translation software.
Sanas, the leader in developing the world's first RealTime Speech Understanding Platform and an innovator of AI-powered accent translation software, has filed a federal complaint against Krisp Technologies, Inc., accusing it of patent infringement and theft of trade secrets. Sanas, founded in 2020, created innovative software that enables regional accent speakers to be readily understood by other speakers of alternative local accents in real-time. Their technology is renowned for low latency, seamless functionality, and maintaining natural intonation and original speaker authenticity.
Sanas is recognized to have established the accent translation software product category, whose solutions are used extensively across industries seeking to bridge communication gaps through the removal of accent discrimination. The lawsuit reveals that Sanas had been approached by Krisp, an Armenian technology firm, in 2021 for a potential partnership to resell Sanas' patented technology for accent translation. Krisp had been given Sanas' trade secrets under non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Krisp then broke off talks in late 2022 and, in Sanas' contention, covertly created its own rival accent conversion software by utilizing Sanas' trade secrets.
In 2023, Krisp showcased publicly their implementation of accent conversion software and patented their inventions claiming the tech as theirs. In 2025, Krisp started selling this product commercially. Sanas accuses Krisp's software as copying its patented technology in full detail and seeks legal acknowledgment as co-inventor of Krisp's patents.
The suit, filed in the Northern District of California, alleges Krisp infringed four US patents issued to Sanas and committed trade secret violations. Sanas seeks to guard its innovations in the translation software market and maintain equal market competition. Sanas CEO Sharath Keshava Narayana highlighted the company's mission to enable individuals to communicate more effectively, fight discrimination based on accents using sophisticated translation technology.
