UAE and US collaborate on clean energy projects, aiming for sustainable global solutions.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States (US) are working closely together to support a cleaner and more sustainable future. Their energy partnership focuses on investing in clean and renewable energy technologies to strengthen global energy security and help developing countries.
An essential aspect of this partnership is the UAE-US Partnership for Accelerating Clean Energy (PACE), which was revealed in November 2022. In order to create 100 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy by 2035, this effort seeks to raise $100 billion. The two nations agreed in January 2023 that they will contribute $20 billion to construct 15GW of clean energy projects in the United States by 2035. In association with US investors, Masdar which is a clean energy business based in the United Arab Emirates is leading this project.
By purchasing a 35% share in a sizable blue hydrogen project in Texas, ADNOC, the national oil firm of the United Arab Emirates is further promoting clean energy. About 1 billion cubic meters of blue hydrogen per day and over 1 million tonnes of low carbon ammonia will be produced by this project yearly.
In order to inspire creativity, the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy has teamed up with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the University of Arizona to look into novel renewable energy sources, such as solar electricity in space.
Masdar intends to raise its US energy capacity to 25GW within the next ten years. Since 2019, Masdar has invested in wind and solar projects in New Mexico, California and Texas and in the New York. With more projects planned this increased electricity capacity by 3.7GW and energy storage capacity by 5.1GWh. These initiatives together prove healthy US-UAE partnership in the worldwide transition to sustainable energy.
