Salesforce buys Convergence to enhance AI agent tech and open London-based R&D center.
The U.S. software giant Salesforce has acquired Convergence, an upcoming AI agent firm based in London. Andy Toulis and Marvin Purtorab, who have previously worked at significant internet businesses like Shopify and Cohere, founded Convergence just a year ago.
Convergence creates advanced AI agents – smart digital helpers that can understand and carry out tasks on their own. These kinds of tools are quickly becoming one of the most exciting areas in artificial intelligence. Salesforce sees this as a big opportunity and will use Convergence’s technology to grow its own AI platform called Agentforce.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff believes that in 2025, companies will use over one billion AI agents, making work faster and more efficient. With Convergence’s help, Salesforce plans to develop AI agents that can work like human assistants – able to think, adapt, and handle complex tasks.
While the price of the deal hasn’t been shared, Convergence had already raised $12 million in early funding. Top talent from industry leaders including Google DeepMind, Meta, and PolyAI is on the team. According to Salesforce, this agreement will also assist the company in establishing a sizable AI research and development (R&D) facility in London. Salesforce executives think the city is the ideal location to develop their next generation of AI tools because of its abundance of AI experts.
This action shows how, in order to keep ahead of the competition in the AI market, large IT companies are turning to small startups for new concepts and new technology.
