Christian Foyer Named COO as Audi Restructures for F1 Entry

Audi appoints Foyer COO, replacing Baker, to lead F1 powertrain efforts before the 2026 debut.

Audi is beginning its preparations for its Formula 1 debut in 2026 with a major leadership demonstration by appointing Christian Foyer as the new Chief Operating Officer of Audi Formula Racing. This change follows the resignation of current COO Adam Baker, who is stepping down from his role by mutual agreement after playing a key part in Audi’s F1 entry strategy and power unit development in Neuburg.

Foyer brings significant experience in F1 powertrain development and process structures and will now join the management board of Audi Formula Racing. His new role puts him at the center of Audi’s engine development operations, with a strong focus on hybrid powertrain systems, an important component of the team's competitive ambitions.

Adam Baker's influence on AUDI AG's Formula 1 plans was acknowledged by Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management, who also expressed confidence in Christian Foyer's appointment, saying that Audi's F1 strategy was largely shaped by Baker and the company believed that Foyer's experience would assist partnership and quicken the project for the business.

This transition marks a key phase in the automobile industry for Audi’s roadmap to F1, as the team finalizes plans to take over the current Kick Sauber outfit. The two sites of Audi's project are the chassis development base in Hinwil, Switzerland, and the engine base in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany.

Foyer’s appointment signals Audi’s commitment to establishing a high-performing operational and technical structure ahead of its 2026 debut, with a clear mandate to lead the engine program and mix development across abilities.
