Voia AI Startup Reveals Evolving VFX Pipeline, Targets Creative Freedom

Voia democratizes VFX with AI, providing gaming-grade tools for filmmakers of all budgets.

An AI startup called voia is revealing its evolving visual effects pipeline after emerging from incognito mode. CEO Avner Braverman explains that the platform was created for artists and by the artists. He puts emphasis on that they are integrating AI and automation into VFX, developing a platform that enhances creativity. This approach provides greater freedom for top-tier storytellers and filmmakers while also making it more accessible to those without Hollywood-level budgets. He started the Sunnyvale startup in 2022 alongside fellow industry vets Haim Helman and Noam Malali with the goal and purpose in high performance infrastructure tech.

Voia has raised about $10 million so far, including funding from its founders and key partners WPP and Keshet International. Barbour explains that Voia's mission is to democratize VFX, especially in the realm of virtual production. The platform offers a pipeline that delivers significant creative freedom for top-tier storytellers and filmmakers while also making it more accessible to those without Hollywood-style budgets.

Voia’s AI models back a pipeline designed for both basic and professional use. The basic "point and shoot" pipeline is ideal for creating content for platforms like TikTok, while the "pro pipeline" offers artists access to professional tools, such as gaming engines like Unreal, compositing software like Nuke, editing systems, and other VFX tools. Barbour highlights that in these cases, Voia delivers discrete layers, including camera tracking, foreground, background, and depth maps.

A new version of the toolset is set to be released next month which was initially developed for the iPhone. This toolset will support Professional cameras including models from ARRI and Red. The technology is already being used by a select group of early customers, including Green Productions, Pace Pictures, and BBDO. Barbour notes that the range of users spans from mid-sized production companies and ad agencies to A-list filmmakers in Hollywood.
