Azad Engineering Launches High-Tech Lean Manufacturing Facility for Mitsubishi in Telangana

Boosts precision engineering, strengthens India’s global manufacturing role, and expands skilled employment.

Hyderabad-based complex component manufacturer Azad Engineering has opened a new state-of-the-art lean manufacturing facility specializing in Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) at Tuniki Bollaram, Telangana. This marks a key milestone for India's growing position within the global manufacturing and engineering arena.

Covering 7,200 square meters, the plant was inaugurated by Masahito Kataoka, Senior Vice President, GTCC Business Division, Energy System, MHI, in the presence of Telangana's Special Chief Secretary of Industries & Commerce Jayesh Ranjan and Azad Engineering Chairman and CEO Rakesh Chopdar.

With its design based on Lean manufacturing concepts, the new plant is optimized to reduce waste, streamline workflows, and maximize efficiency. Lean philosophy promotes relentless improvement through eliminating waste, value stream mapping, and designing for pull systems—maximizing customer value in the end.

With 200 trained professionals currently in employment, the plant is outfitted with high technology for manufacturing high-precision parts. It is also connected to Azad's Center for Excellence and Innovation, which enhances the company's engineering strengths and helps drive India's vision of becoming a global manufacturing hub.

In huge appreciation of its initiative, Azad Engineering has also been awarded the "2024 Partner of the Year" by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which is a nod given by an isolated one of more than 1,000 global partners.

Addressing the event, CEO Rakesh Chopdar highlighted the significance of collaboration with MHI and the company's long-term approach. "This facility represents a new era in our association with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It is the first among several dedicated plants we are establishing to serve the increasing demand from global OEMs."

When all the facilities at the Azad Centre for Excellence are operational, the company anticipates employing over 2,000 highly qualified professionals, cementing its position as a major contributor to India's advanced manufacturing efforts.
