Reliance Retail grows store count, boosts margins, expands non-food items, and strengthens e-commerce.
With 18,918 locations nationwide as of June 30, 2024, Reliance Retail had 81.3 million square feet of retail space under operation. Reliance Retail is already one of the top five global retailers in terms of store count, having opened 1,840 new locations in FY'24.In terms of both market capitalization and revenue, it is in the top 30 worldwide retailers.
India’s largest retailer known as reliance Retail has increased merchandise for almost 50 per cent in grocery store of the trading non-food and general items.
This step was taken as a move to boost the retailer’s e-commerce platform Jiomart. This platform connects its Smart Bazar stores providing a variety to consumers, according to insider from the industry.
Space revision is taking place at all the stores of Reliance Retail, allocating higher trading areas for non-food and general merchandise items as a part of the expansion. This segment such as grocery and apparel offers higher margins than other segments.
Reliance Retail is working to increase its margins in order to quadruple its business within the next three to four years. It is increasing its presence in the premium market because it thinks that the country's demand for goods and services is growing quickly as disposable income rises. During its most recent earnings call for the June quarter, Reliance management stated that the "streamlining of operations" was contributing to the improvement in margins. Additionally, in its latest annual report, Reliance Retail stated that expanding the range in non-food categories continues to be a "key priority."
According to Reliance Retail, its stores saw sustained growth in the non-food sector, with the General Merchandise and Home & Personal Care categories leading the way.
For FY24, Reliance Retail's gross revenue was Rs 3.06 trillion, or $36.7 billion. Over a billion people visited its stores, and over 1.25 billion transactions were made across all of its platforms.
