Oracle's newest layoffs hit cloud division and senior positions, as the company released its earnings forecast.
Oracle is facing another round of layoffs this week, which reportedly affects various departments, including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The layoffs are part of a broader workforce reduction that has stirred considerable discussion across online platforms like TheLayoff.com. Though the exact number of affected employees remains unclear, some sources suggest that as many as 11,000 employees could lose their jobs, based on reports that indicate around 7% of Oracle’s total workforce.
The layoffs seem to be targeting more senior positions, such as senior and principal level positions in the company. An anonymous employee has come forward, sharing their story, which saw their whole team, which was made up of senior personnel, affected. Notably, sources show that the current round of layoffs does not appear to be performance-related, as most of the affected employees had good reviews and high performance scores.
This layoff announcement comes amidst Oracle's recent history, ahead of releasing its fiscal third-quarter earnings on March 10, 2025. The fact that these cuts are being done now has fueled speculation about the company's finances and whether or not it is attempting to beautify itself before the earnings announcement. Financial analysts already have mixed expectations for Oracle's future results, with Monness Crespi Hardt's Brian White downgrading Oracle's shares from "neutral" to "sell." White cited the firm's high valuation, intense competition, and macroeconomic uncertainty, even though Oracle is well-placed in cloud computing and generative AI.
With Oracle still making adjustments to its staff, the larger trend of layoffs in the tech sector continues in 2025, impacting not just Oracle but other major players such as Google Cloud, Microsoft, and Salesforce. As the company continues to ride out these stormy seas, workers and investors alike will be keeping a close eye on Oracle's next move.
