Trump announces Alina Habba as counselor, nominates Landau, Rubio, and others for key positions.
President-elect Donald Trump made an announcement on Sunday evening stating that Alina Habba will be a member of his White House team as counselor to the President. Trump described Habba as a "tireless advocate for Justice" and a "fierce defender of the Rule of Law" in praising her for being steadfastly loyal. He commended her for her help to his campaign and transition team as well as her knowledge of the legal system. Trump also pointed out that Habba, a first-generation American of Middle Eastern descent, is an inspiration to women in law and politics, having just been declared Chaldean Woman of the Year. She took to social media, thanking God for the "privilege" of serving the 45th and 47th Presidents of the United States.
Apart from Habba, Trump nominated Christopher Landau as the Deputy Secretary of State, where he will work with Marco Rubio, who was nominated as Secretary of State. Landau was praised for his previous experience as ambassador to Mexico, having helped curb illegal migration, and his legal background, having clerked for both Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.
Trump also announced Michael Needham will be counselor to the Department of State while Michael Anton will be the director of policy planning. These two individuals have long working relationships with Rubio, for which Trump praised their rich experience in government, the private sector, and academia.
Finally, Trump congratulated Brian Schimming on his reelection as Chairman of the Wisconsin GOP. Trump congratulated Schimming on his leadership in securing Republican victories in the state, especially in the 2024 election, and expressed enthusiasm about continuing their collaboration to advance the America First agenda.
