Joby Aircraft, electric, unified flight controls

Pilots can now experience the future of urban air mobility with Joby’s electric air taxi.

Joby Aviation, Inc. (NYSE: JOBY), the leading company developing electric air taxis, has officially launched its revolutionary aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. This new addition offers aviation enthusiasts worldwide the chance to pilot Joby’s all-electric air taxi, providing a glimpse into the future of urban air mobility.

The Joby aircraft in the simulator has exact features of Joby's innovative air taxi, which can transition simply from a vertical takeoff to wingborne flight. It has this feature due to unique flight control system known as "unified flight controls" and inspired by the controls in military aircraft, for example, F-35B Joint Strike Fighter.

JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby said, "We're incredibly excited to share our revolutionary aircraft with aviation enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds, giving everyone an opportunity to experience the intuitive and effortless controls we have designed." Players will be able to fly between helipads and airports around the world, replicating routes that Joby plans to operate, such as from JFK Airport to Downtown Manhattan. These routes mirror the real-life exhibitions of Joby, with demonstration flights in New York City and Los Angeles.

Achieving speeds up to 200 mph and carrying four passengers, Joby's electric air taxis may be quiet, eco-friendly alternatives to a conventional helicopter. Unlike traditional helicopters, this electric air taxi produces significantly less noise and, of course, zero emissions, which make them part of the company's vision for sustainable, high-speed mobility in urban areas.

With a task that took years of collaborative efforts with the team from Microsoft Flight Simulator, the aircraft's interior, exterior, and physics in the game had to be as realistic as possible for the simulation to be able to pass on to the gamers. The real-life design of Joby's aircraft translated well into game design, enabling players to experience how air taxis can be used to explore new avenues.
