Humanoid robots set to revolutionize eldercare amid rising labor shortages
With the advent of OpenAI's ChatGPT in 2022, it has brought a revolution within humanoid robotics, especially in the face of labor deficiencies in developed nations that are suffering from an aging population and low birth rates. GlobalData's latest Strategic Intelligence report, "Deep Dive into Humanoid Robots" states that, with growing demand for automation, especially in eldercare, humanoid robots are becoming essential solutions. These AI-endowed robots will not only emote and interact like humans but also behave inside human habitats and are already being rigorously tested by companies such as Tesla and Amazon before their massive commercial deployment.
During this phase, humanoid robots will begin to accept hazardous tasks in those industries that suffer from manpower shortages. To the surprise of many, the leading breakthrough is taking place within companies like Tesla and innovative startups rather than from traditional Japanese and European firms.
Deployment probably will begin in these countries: labor is very strongly in demand there, namely China, South Korea, and Japan. Martina Raveni, Analyst in the Strategic team says that, “the developed societies with declining and aging populations are in danger of facing massive eldercare catastrophes, if humanoid robots do not arrive soon”.
Ultimately, the success of humanoid robots will depend not just on their technology but also on their acceptance and trust within the communities they serve.
