New technology enhances connectivity and voice communication for millions across the country.
With more than 20,000 5G stations, Free Mobile, an Iliad subsidiary, has announced the opening of France's first commercial 5G Standalone (SA) network, which currently covers almost 95% of the country. With almost 7,000 locations using the 3.5 GHz band as part of this huge expansion, Free now has the largest 5G mobile network in France, covering about 10,500 communities.
A key development in mobile technology has been made with the arrival of 5G SA, which replaces the current 4G core with a completely independent infrastructure. Users may now fully utilize the potential of 5G technology, which improves mobile communication by offering quicker speeds, lower latency, and
better reliability.
Free has also launched Voice over New Radio (VoNR) in tandem with the first of 5G SA, to improve voice quality and connection times for users. As long as they have a suitable device, users on the 5G Free Mobile Plan can enjoy this service for free.
Declaring, "With 5G SA, we are proud to be the first telco in France to launch VoNR, enhancing the overall user experience;" the CEO of Free Mobile stressed the significance of this development."
Free strong presence in the telecommunications industry is demonstrated by the fact that as of June 2024, it has about 22.9 million retail subscribers, including 15.3 million mobile subscribers. Free hopes to further establish itself as France's leading provider of mobile connectivity with this launch.
