The organizational change is in line with Cisco's strategic shift toward its three fastest-growing sectors: cybersecurity, cloud computing, and AI
Cisco Webex has witnessed a series of high-profile departures as the company undergoes significant restructuring. Jono Luk, formerly the VP of Product Management at Webex, has left Cisco to become the Chief Product Officer at SumerSports, citing a desire for a better work-life balance. His exit follows those of Javed Khan, SVP/GM, and Lorissa Horton, SVP/GM & Chief Product Officer, who have also moved on from the company.
These departures come amid Cisco’s ongoing restructuring efforts, which will see a seven percent reduction in its global workforce, equating to over 5,500 job losses. This marks the second round of layoffs at Cisco in 2024, following the departure of about 4,000 employees in February. The organizational change is in line with Cisco's strategic shift toward its three fastest-growing sectors: cybersecurity, cloud computing, and AI. Cisco plans to combine its Webex collaboration platform with its networking and security businesses under a single unit. Jeetu Patel, formerly EVP & GM of Cisco’s Security and Collaboration Business Units, will now oversee this unified unit as Chief Product Officer.
The shift is aimed at leveraging Cisco’s strength in cross-integration and platform strategy, particularly focusing on its burgeoning security business. As a result, Webex may take a back seat in the short term, particularly as the company focuses on reigniting growth after a 10 percent drop in total revenues last quarter.
