Paris 2024 is expected to generate more online marketing and unbeatable social media engagement, beating Tokyo's digital footprint.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics set records for the most socially involved Games ever, and that record is expected to be broken by the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Hootsuite reports that Paris is producing an astounding 342% more online mentions than Tokyo, with 569,000 mentions as opposed to 129,000 in Tokyo.

Paris has received almost 4.1 million references in the 30 days preceding the opening ceremony, a 46% increase from Tokyo's 2.8 million mentions in the same period. With 211.8 million online interactions, the event has surpassed Tokyo's 67 million by a margin of 216%.

Even before the Games start in seriousness, viewers can see the Olympic Village behind closed doors and receive exclusive looks into the lives of the athletes in Paris. Athletes now have a distinctive platform to build their personal brands and draw sponsorships thanks to this digital boom.

According to Hootsuite's data, new sports like breakdancing are becoming more popular online, but traditional sports like basketball, gymnastics, and swimming are still actively talked. Given that 75% of consumers prefer brands to discuss sports events online, the Paris Olympics are not merely a major global sporting event but also a social media phenomenon that presents great potential for brands to interact with audiences.
