These capabilities enhance asset management by making it possible to track resource locations and communication channels more precisely
Fortinet Inc., a leading cybersecurity firm, has unveiled significant updates to its operational technology (OT) security platform, aiming to bolster defenses against the increasing frequency of cyberattacks targeting OT environments. The improvements demonstrate Fortinet's dedication to protecting the swiftly expanding cyber-physical systems market.
The updates address the alarming rise in OT-related cyber intrusions. A recent Fortinet report highlighted that 73% of organizations experienced OT-related breaches, a sharp increase from 49% in 2023. With these growing threats, Fortinet emphasizes the urgent need for tailored cybersecurity solutions in OT settings. Key upgrades to the OT security platform include advanced asset identification and OT network topology visualization within FortiOS OT View. These capabilities enhance asset management by making it possible to track resource locations and communication channels more precisely. Fortinet also introduced expanded virtual patching capabilities, providing enhanced protection for unpatched OT assets through new signatures in the FortiGuard OT Security Service. Addressing hardware, Fortinet introduced the FortiSwitch Rugged 216F-POE and 424F-POE, two new rugged switches made to withstand industrial environment requirements and power Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices.
Additionally, Fortinet's FortiSRA now secures remote access for third-party contractors, while an update to FortiExtender Vehicle improves fleet management with a ruggedized design. With these updates, Fortinet continues to lead in OT cybersecurity, offering robust solutions to mitigate industrial risks and enhance security operations in critical infrastructure sectors.
