Organic grocery retailer expands footprint with planned West Side Albuquerque supermarket at redeveloped Cottonwood Corners.
A new supermarket store of the Whole Foods Market chain is coming to Cottonwood Corners in Albuquerque’s West Side. The store is expected to open in 2027. The store will be located in a 39,546-square-foot retail space that once housed the Legacy Furniture store. It is the first time the chain will have a presence in the western part of the city.
The new Whole Foods Market Albuquerque West Side store will be located between Best Buy and Michaels in the Cottonwood Corners retail area. Documents from the Bernalillo County Clerk’s office indicate that the company has leased the store for 20 years, with the lease effective from the 11th of December. The retail area is currently undergoing redevelopment by SimonCRE, the new owner of the area, which was acquired in 2024.
SimonCRE’s CEO, Josh Simon, had previously hinted at the possibility of a prominent retailer soon being added to the shopping center. Commercial broker Greg Foltz, president of Coldwell Banker Commercial, stated that the new retailer will be of great importance to the local community. Foltz stated that many residents of Albuquerque’s West Side have, for years, requested a Whole Foods Market.
Cottonwood Corners already boasts a variety of national retailers, including Barnes & Noble, Ross Dress for Less, and Michaels. The shopping center is also expected to include Sierra Trading, an outdoor retailer, in 2026. The retailer is part of a larger transformation plan for the shopping center.
A new Whole Foods Market supermarket is expected to improve the shopping center’s tenant mix, as well as provide residents of Albuquerque’s West Side with access to organic foods. Updates regarding the development of the new supermarket will be revealed in due course.
