Fujitsu leverages AI to automate software development, boosting productivity and setting new industry standards.
Fujitsu's AI-powered software development platform is all set to revolutionize enterprise engineering, as Fujitsu Limited has announced the launch of a new system that will automate the entire software development process. The new system, which was launched in Japan in 2026, uses cutting-edge AI agents to accelerate software updates needed due to regulatory and operational changes.
The software development platform relies on Fujitsu’s Takane large language model and agentic AI technology developed by Fujitsu Research. The platform automates activities ranging from requirements definition and system design to coding and integration testing. Fujitsu is set to apply the system to update 67 medical and government software products by the end of fiscal year 2026. Since January, the system has already been applied to software updates related to Japan’s 2026 medical fee revisions. In a proof-of-concept related to 2024 revisions, a process that took three person-months was accomplished in only four hours, achieving a 100-fold productivity gain.
Fujitsu said that the platform will “dramatically improve the speed of software changes required by legal changes and system updates,” and that it will “reduce verification workloads and enable engineers to concentrate on more valuable innovation activities.” Fujitsu also emphasized the importance of AI-Ready Engineering in ensuring the reliability of automation in complex enterprise systems.
The move is timely, as there is a growing shortage of IT talent and an increasing need for fast digital transformation. Fujitsu’s expansion into the finance, manufacturing, retail, and public sectors will help it set a new industry standard for AI-driven lifecycle automation of enterprise systems.
The AI-driven software lifecycle automation Japan 2026, Takane's large language model enterprise deployment, and AI-Ready Engineering for regulatory software updates are important milestones in Fujitsu’s overall plan. Further industry expansion is expected to be introduced later this fiscal year.
