Mumbai and Korea discuss tech-driven urban planning, infrastructure, and sustainable development under Mumbai. 3.0.
At the India Global Forum 2025, held in Mumbai, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) received a team from the Republic of Korea. Top government representatives, corporate executives, and urban specialists made up the team, which met with MMRDA's Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee to talk about potential areas of cooperation in the areas of infrastructure, technology, and investment in the Mumbai 3.0 vision.
The visit comes after Mumbai joined the Global Twin Cities Platform, and MMRDA and the World Smart Cities Forum (WSCF) inked a Memorandum of Understanding at Davos last year. The platform's goal, according to MMRDA officials, is to foster collaboration amongst cities that are leaders in sustainability, innovation, and technology-driven government.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ) and the World Smart Cities Forum (WSCF) were among the important organizations represented in the Korean delegation. Thanks to advanced infrastructure and integrated urban planning made possible by South Korea's flagship economic development zone, IFEZ, the city of Incheon has grown to be a $100 billion economy. Its experience became the main topic of conversation and MMRDA talked about how the same ideas could be applied in Mumbai, particularly in relation to green mobility, smart housing, AI-enabled governance and sustainable urban planning.
Knowledge sharing, capacity building, and pilot projects in the MMR will be greatly aided by WSCF, an international non-profit organization with headquarters in London that promotes people-centric and technology-driven urban development. Megaprojects like transit-oriented development regions, mixed-use townships, logistics parks, fintech cities, and affordable housing under Mumbai 3.0 were also mentioned in the talks.
