Q-KON partners with China to provide satellite IoT services, connecting businesses, and rural areas across South Africa.
Q-KON, a major African satellite communication operator, announced a partnership with China's Guodian Gaoke and satellite terminal expert StarWin to provide next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) services to South Africa. It will launch the Tianqi low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network in order to offer trustworthy, low-power IoT connectivity to a variety of sectors.
Q-KON will become the only provider of Tianqi-based IoT solutions in South Africa, using its local experience and distribution network. Guodian Gaoke will provide the LEO satellites along with supplies, while StarWin will provide approved ground terminals that meet South African technical as well as regulatory requirements. It improves Q-KON's service offerings, particularly the flagship platform, Twoobii, known to supply dependable connectivity to rural and small locations. CEO of Q-KON, Dr. Dawie de Wet described the partnership as an important step toward installing modern satellite technology across Africa.
Twoobii along with IoT services will support businesses, industries, and government agencies to operate more efficiently. By offering solutions for smart monitoring, automation, and real-time data management it also supports sectors like mining, transportation, and agriculture. Suggesting a growing trend toward satellite-based digital transformation. These IoT services allow devices to interact easily, distant processes to perform smoothly, and immediate information for making decisions. This might allow for the development of fully connected smart regions, making satellite-based IoT a common part of South African life.
