Yellowstone creator, Taylor Sheridan, moves to NBCUniversal but promises to finish all existing projects through 2028.
Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone and its sequels, is leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal after Skydance media acquired Paramount. This is newsworthy especially during a moment when many of the Yellowstone spin-offs that were teased don't exist yet and are now being developed on top of some other spinoffs. The story behind The Dutton Ranch, Y: Marshals, and The Madison will all be in process. Sheridan's producing partner David Gasser has also signed a first-look film and TV deal with NBCUniversal. Glasser's TV-film deal will commence in 2026 after Sheridan has completed his Paramount agreement. Sheridan's overall deal with NBCUniversal will be a five-year contract, which includes film, TV, and streaming. This deal begins on January 1, 2029, when Sheridan's Paramount arrangement terminates.
This is a positive signal regarding the Yellowstone universe, as any of its programs can now air within three years of the completion of development. The new deal doesn't reference prior or ongoing conversations about spinoffs of Yellowstone that have been in development, or had been for years. The 1944 prequel appears to be another part of the 1884 and 1923 timeline. Regardless, Sheridan now has a deal with Paramount through 2028 - meaning the production and networking company will be connected to all Yellowstone series.
This gives Sheridan (now that he has three other different individuals taking over those three shows) theoretically has more time to focus on 1944 and 6666, allowing the time to build a team to take the workflow management of the Yellowstone universe at Paramount, and keep his franchise active.
