A new milestone in women's cricket is set during the inaugural match of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in Guwahati.

India and Sri Lanka played a historic first match in Guwahati to kick off the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. This is the first game that broke the previous record for the most people attending a Women's Cricket World Cup opening day. 22,843 spectators at the ACA Stadium broke the previous attendance record of 15,935 at the 2024 India and Pakistan ICC Women's T20 World Cup. This record is only one of many milestones to be achieved throughout the event, including with the largest prize money in women's cricket history and improved fan access. Sachin Tendulkar admired the progress made in women's cricket in an essay for the ICC.
