APAC’s M2M and IoT connections to reach 1.3 billion by 2030 are powered by 5G and smart inventions.
By 2030, there will be 1.3 billion machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) connections in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) area, according to GlobalData. The analysis also shows that, 5G network expansion, smart city initiatives and the increasing uptake of connected devices across industries will all contribute to a 9.1% annual growth rate between 2025 and 2030.
This increased attention in key areas would allow 5G subscribers in APAC rise by 11.4% yearly between 2025 and 2030, according to GlobalData's most recent mobile broadband projection. While countries like South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Australia are leading the way in 5G adoptions, China and Hong Kong are expected to have the greatest penetration rates in the region. Telecom analyst Kantipudi Pradeepthi claims that 5G's high speed, low latency, and ability to support millions of connected devices are important for the growth of M2M and IoT networks. It is expected that industrialized nations with advanced digital infrastructure will drive most of the new M2M connections.
M2M and IoT technologies are rapidly being adopted in manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, and energy, in addition to smart infrastructure such as smart cities, buildings, and utilities. Telecom providers are launching specialized IoT solutions to meet this need. For instance, PLDT in the Philippines offers IoT services for smart cities and factories, Spark New Zealand offers linked mobility for healthcare and agriculture, and Bharti Airtel in India offers a variety of industrial and embedded M2M SIM cards.
Pradeepthi claims that the growing demand for stable, quick connections and specialized enterprise IoT solutions will alter the APAC telecom market. Operators that expand 5G coverage strengthen network resilience, and offer specialized IoT platforms will open up new business opportunities and long-term revenue growth.
