Volkswagen introduces ID.Polo electric concepts, blending heritage design with modern EV performance and sustainability.
Volkswagen is acceptance the future of electric mobility by motivating its iconic car names with a modern twist. The company is introducing new electric hatchbacks under the legendary "Polo" name, now prefixed with "ID" by giving us models like the ID.Polo and the sportier ID.Polo GTI. These concept cars represent Volkswagen’s shift toward sustainable mobility and are expected to go into production in 2026.
Built on VW’s committed electric MEB platform, the ID.Polo could offer two battery options 38 kWh and 56 kWh by providing a heavy range of up to 450 km. charging speeds may reach up to 125 kW, allowing for quicker top-ups. The ID.Polo GTI, a performance-focused version, is expected to come with a 226 hp electric motor. A Club sport version may offer 286 hp, while a top-tier dual-motor 'R' variant could reach 400 hp and feature all-wheel drive.
Both electric hatchbacks draw inspiration from earlier concept models in design. The ID.Polo features sleek headlights, slim taillights and a roomy glass cabin. The GTI version adds a sportier touch with bold wheel arches, larger alloy wheels, a front diffuser, rear spoilers and a unique rear bumper design. Inside, the ID.Polo is expected to have a modern 12.9 inch infotainment screen and a 10.9 inch digital instrument panel. Volkswagen also aims to reduce environmental impact by avoiding glue and hard plastics, instead of using sustainable materials. These upcoming EVs will debut at the Munich Motor Show by giving a closer look at Volkswagen’s electric future while keeping its legacy alive through familiar names and design cues.
