Box introduces AI agents to streamline document processing, automate workflows, and strengthen content security.
Box is introducing new AI tools to help businesses manage, organize and secure better their documents and data. These tools aim to simplify document processing and reduce manual tasks. One of the key tools is Box Extract, which uses AI to read and understand different types of documents. It can identify what kind of file it is like a contract or spreadsheet and pull out important details spontaneously. This tool works with various formats, including PDFs, scanned documents and images. The technology behind Box Extract improved after Box acquired an AI company called Alphamoon which specializes in intelligent document processing (IDP).
Another tool called Box Automate helps businesses to create automatic workflows without needing much coding. It can direct documents and data to the right places and program tasks that were once done by hand. This process when combined with Box Extract, it offers a powerful solution for managing large volumes of documents more efficiently. These features help Box compete with other document mechanization platforms like Kofax and Abbyy.
Box is also focusing on content security with Box Shield Pro, a set of AI-powered security agents. These include tools that automatically label sensitive information, summarize security threats, and detect possible ransom ware attacks. These tools are especially important as companies begin using AI agents with access to large data repositories. New technologies like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) make it easier for AI to access data, but they also introduce new security risks. Box's new AI tools were announced during the Box Works user conference. Box Extract and Box Automate will be available soon for users on Enterprise Advanced plans, while Box Shield Pro will be an add-on option for existing high-level Box customers later this year.
