Apple created a new AI team called AKI, developing chatbots and smart searches, aiming to improve Siri and remain competent.
Ahead of the debut of the iPhone 17, Apple aims to introduce its own AI chatbot, significantly boosting its artificial intelligence efforts. According to Mark Gurman's story in Bloomberg's Power On newsletter, Apple has created a new team called "Answers, Knowledge, and Information" (AKI) with the aim to create AI tools and an improved smart search system similar to ChatGPT and Perplexity AI.
An "answer engine," a software tool that searches the internet to offer quick responses to simple searches, is one of the team's major attempts. In addition to upgrading the systems that support Siri, Safari, and Spotlight, Apple also plans to create a separate chatbot tool. Robby Walker, an earlier Siri leader, is now the leader of this advancement of AI and leads this effort. Some critical abilities, like greater ChatGPT interaction with Siri, have been delayed even though Apple created its Apple Smart platform earlier this year. These delays seem to have inspired the formation of the new AKI team, aiming to support Apple in becoming more competent in the quickly changing AI market.
Gurman added that in an attempt to quicken research, Apple is thinking about acquiring or partnering with AI businesses. One business that gets notice is Perplexity, an AI search startup that Arvind Srinivas developed. To help Siri get more advanced and remain competent with Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft. Apple's growing focus on AI reflects a major shift as the business tries to improve Siri while preserving its market position in an area that is quickly gaining the lead in the field of technology.
