Shanghai strengthens innovation in science and technology, focusing on primary tech sectors, education reforms, and regional cooperation to support national development.
Shanghai will grow its focus on innovation in science and technology by the half of 2025. In order to support China's goal for greater independence in advanced sectors, after President Xi Jinping visited the city, the 12th Communist Party of China (CPC) Shanghai Committee adopted the order.
This highlights Shanghai's role in China's innovation goals and demands local authorities accept more responsibility. To improve the region's status as an important place for science and technology worldwide. Reducing limitations that restrict independent innovation is one of the main goals.
The city aims to promote innovation by maximizing China's benefits, that involves an active marketplace and strong government coordination. Alongside government-led activities, the private sector will become more involved. Modern technologies like medicinal products and semiconductors are all significant areas for development. By supporting fundamental research and supporting innovations in important technologies, Shanghai aims to strengthen its leadership in these sectors.
While private businesses are allowed to be more open and bold in their efforts to innovate, government-owned companies will be encouraged to take the lead in original research. In addition, foreign-funded R&D centers will get support to speed up their development. In order to develop stronger supply chains and promote industrial developments, the city also aims to strengthen regional connections, primarily within the Yangtze River Delta.
Improvements in the research and education industries will be advanced in order to achieve these goals, with a focus on attracting and educating talent. For future local and national development, Shanghai aims to develop an innovation-driven system that combines industry, government, and research.
