Nigeria appoints new NADDC board to expand vehicle production and support future exports.
The Nigerian government has taken a major step to boost its automotive industry by inaugurating a new Governing Board for the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC). The ceremony took place in Abuja and was led by the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh.
During the event, the minister encouraged the 12-member board, chaired by Chief Emma Eneukwu, to be committed, strategic and proactive in advancing the nation’s automotive goals. He stated that the federal government, especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is fully supportive of efforts to grow the industry.
Chief Eneukwu expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged that the board would work hard to position Nigeria as a major center for vehicle advancement assembly and manufacturing across Africa. Joseph Osanipin, Director General of NADDC also addressed the gathering. He stated that the council's priority is to increase vehicle production volume, rather than just the number of manufacturing plants. He noted that Nigeria has already seen a jump in production, with new vehicle assembly numbers rising from around 4,000 units per year to nearly 12,000.
He added that NADDC aims to start exporting vehicles and automotive machines made in Nigeria, stressing the importance of quality and durability. The council also plans to work closely with key stakeholders including raw material suppliers, vehicle assemblers and component manufacturers to achieve shared industry goals. The board’s creation is expected to drive further invention, local production and international competitiveness, reinforcing Nigeria’s role in the African automotive market.
