New interceptor enhances precision and protects Israel from evolving global missile threats.
Israel has declared a defence technology breakthrough with the invention of the Arrow-4 air defence system. The advanced missile interceptor is capable of downing hypersonic missiles flying at speeds of up to 4,000 miles per hour (Mach 5 and above). The Arrow-4 is an improvement over the current Arrow-3 and Arrow-2 systems, geared towards defending Israel from short-range, high-speed missile threats with enhanced precision.
Israel Aerospace Industries CEO Boaz Levy has confirmed that the system will be operational soon, although a date was not announced. It comes just weeks after Iran fired missiles at Israeli cities in a recent conflict that killed civilians and left extensive injuries. Israel's existing missile defence, including the famous Iron Dome and Arrow systems, is said to have intercepted some 85% of the attacking missiles during the clashes.
The Arrow-4 system employs a "shoot-look-shoot" strategy, in that it is capable of changing course in flight to more accurately strike and destroy incoming missiles. This makes it highly effective against hypersonic missiles, which boast tremendous speed and the capacity for unpredictable maneuverability. Hypersonic missiles are becoming an emerging threat globally, with countries like the US, Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea working on or testing the technology. Israel is also in the process of creating the advanced Arrow-5 system, which will eventually replace the Arrow-3 model, further strengthening the country's missile defence system. With the arrival of Arrow-4, Israel is advancing its defence technology in response to the emerging threats of today's missile threats, ensuring greater security for its citizens and maintaining regional security intact.
