Reliance Industries secures Trump brand for Mumbai real estate venture, details remain unclear.
Reliance 4IR Realty Development, a company owned by Reliance Industries, shelled out a sizeable $10 million "development fee" to the Trump Organization to use the Trump brand name for a real estate venture in Mumbai. The payment was made known in a document filed by the US government on June 13 as part of the annual financial disclosure report filed by US President Donald Trump.
The exact information regarding which Mumbai property project will bear the Trump name has not been disclosed. Reliance officials have neither confirmed nor denied the deal. The payment is a licensing fee generally paid by third parties that want to use the Trump name on their development projects, which has become a known and profitable real estate brand globally.
The development price was paid by Reliance 4IR Realty Development Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd, one of the world's largest conglomerates and the flagship company of Mukesh Ambani. Although it is a giant with interests in energy, telecommunications, and retail, Reliance has not historically been in the large-scale real estate development business, though it has pursued some iconic projects in the past, including a massive redevelopment project in Mumbai covering 4,000 acres.
This deal closely resembles the May 2024 visit of Mukesh Ambani to President Donald Trump at a state dinner hosted by the Emir of Qatar in Doha, Qatar. Still, there were no reported formal business or investment talks during the meeting.
The Trump Organization has been leasing its name to real estate developments around the world, and investors in cities such as Dubai, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia have paid the company a total of $44.6 million in foreign development and licensing fees in 2024.
This $10 million payment further extends the current business partnership between Reliance and the Trump Organization, although the terms of the Mumbai project are unclear.
