Croatian maestro brings class, experience, and leadership to Milan's midfield rebuild mission
All-time great midfielder Luka Modric will sign with Italian side AC Milan as a free agent in the next few days. The Croatian legend's Real Madrid contract expires after the FIFA Club World Cup, which will begin on June 14.
Modric, 38, is leaving behind a phenomenal legacy at Real Madrid, where he spent 13 seasons. In his stay at the Spanish giants, he collected a record 28 trophies, among them six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga championships. Modric showed his class even in his last season, scoring two goals and setting up six more in 35 games, even though he only started 17 of them.
He is now ready to start a new chapter with AC Milan. The Italian club had a bad season in 2024–25, finishing eighth in Serie A, which is their worst finish in more than ten years. The club is in rebuilding mode with new head coach Massimiliano Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare. They hope to be stronger next season.
Modric has said in the past that he respects AC Milan, especially because of Croatian great Zvonimir Boban, who also played for the Rossoneri. His signing will add the experience, creativity, and leadership that Milan's midfield has been missing.
Even though he's getting older, Modric is still one of the best passers in the game. He's known for his vision, accuracy, and hard work. His transfer to AC Milan will not only restore the club to its best form but also enable Modric to remain competitive as he prepares to play for Croatia in the 2026 World Cup.
This transfer would suit both Modric and AC Milan perfectly, with the club seeking to regain the top spot in Italian and European football. The fans are eagerly awaiting the formal announcement.
