A lively pitch sees 10 wickets fall; Australia leads by 82, with West Indies bowling impressing.
Australia and the West Indies played their first Test match at Kensington Oval, where batting continued to be difficult. Day 2 witnessed 10 wickets fall, and the game continued quickly. In a match that was ruled by fast bowlers and some tightly umpiring calls, Australia led the West Indies by 82 runs at stumps, hitting 92/4 in their second innings.
The West Indies started the day at 59/5 with Roston Chase and Brandon King at the crease. However, King was hit by Josh Hazlewood's powerful delivery. Due to a strong relationship between Chase and the returning Shai Hope, the score rose to 136/5 by noon. Hope looked powerful after some good boundaries from Mitchell Starc in his first Test match in more than three years. At noon, still things started to go against the West Indies. After an examination, Chase was given out LBW to Pat Cummins, even though there was some confusion about the ball hitting the bat. Hope was caught behind Beau Webster in another close call that replays showed might have been lost by a narrow margin.
While Webster, Cummins, and Hazlewood each took two wickets and Starc claimed three wickets for 65 runs, the West Indies only added 54 runs to their final score of 190. Australia's response started out uncertainly. Shamar Joseph eliminated debutant Sam Konstas, while Alzarri Joseph caught Usman Khawaja LBW early. Justin Greaves caught Cameron Green after a review ruled against him, while Jayden Seales bowled Josh Inglis. Australia faced challenges at 65/4, but Travis Head and Beau Webster managed to steady the innings and end the day at 92/4. Pitch continues to be a challenge to batsmen, and the West Indies bowling assault has been outstanding. An amazing Test victory can be in the cards if the home team sustains the pressure with security and safe play.
