ICMR study finds drones safely deliver blood faster than road transport in emergencies.
According to a new study, by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), drones might be a more effective means of swiftly delivering these life-saving medical supplies particularly in locations that are difficult to access.
In comparison to conventional vans, the study examined how well drones could transport blood and blood components and was published in a reputable scientific journal. Some important features such as whether the blood maintained the proper temperature and whether the blood cells survived drone flights were examined by the researchers. They discovered that drones were excellent at maintaining everything's freshness and safety.
One important invention was that a vehicle took nearly an hour to go 36 kilometers whereas a drone did in just eight minutes. This proves how much more quickly drones can deliver medical supplies that could save one's life. In these findings, ICMR means to launch pilot programs in isolated and challenging locations where access to prompt medical assistance may be problematic. The principal researcher, Dr. Sumit Aggarwal stated that they are joining forces with the National Blood Transfusion Council to develop precise protocols for the safe and effective use of drones for blood delivery.
Rapid delivery of medical supplies is frequent blocked by India's diverse landscape particularly in rural areas. This issue might be resolved by drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which can fly across difficult terrain and get to patients more quickly. According to this study, drones are a dependable, efficient and safe way to deliver blood in an emergency. By confirming that blood gets to healthcares and clinics on time especially in areas with bad roads or heavy traffic drones could help save countless lives.
