Vietnam's healthcare sector is charting a new course in surgical technology adoption. Rather than simply acquiring robotic systems, Vinmec Healthcare System has constructed what it calls an integrated robotic surgery network—a comprehensive ecosystem designed to maximize the clinical impact of these complex machines.

This project, which was unveiled in June 2026, signifies a significant shift from the traditional technology-based approach in network installations. Currently, the network includes five cities, with a clinical coordination at Vinmec Times City International Hospital and robotic surgical centers located at Vinmec Smart City, Vinmec Da Nang, Vinmec Central Park, and Vinmec Can Tho. There is a notable difference in this case: this is not merely a technological development. According to an analysis by the research agency Precedence Research conducted earlier, the market of the surgical robotics is likely to reach more than USD 18.75 billion by the year 2035 with at least 15.44% rate of growth annually. However, despite being a rapid growth, the market from this perspective is a real cause of alarm though it involves the change of nature, namely the hospitals are making differences not by purchasing new technologies but through the implementation of sufficient clinical infrastructure.

The Vinmec system is based on three pillars—Personalization, Automation, and Standardization. The surgeons who are performing robotic operations of various kinds need to undergo the training, tests, and international certification prior to their work in the operating rooms.

"The most difficult part is not purchasing robots," said Assoc. Prof. Pham Van Binh, Director of the Vinmec High-Tech Robotic Surgery Network. "It is building a truly effective robotic surgery program. Such a program is determined by people, not equipment."

Early clinical applications demonstrate this philosophy in practice. Vinmec has deployed robotic capabilities in complex neurological procedures, particularly in surgical planning and electrode-placement for stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) workflows. The technology will help doctors operate on deep nerve structures in a more precise way while also assisting in developing a treatment plan for difficult-to-treat epilepsy and the like.

According to Professor Tran Trung Dung, President of Vinmec Healthcare, this is a turning point. "If the first decade of robotic surgery in Vietnam was mostly about accessibility, the second decade will be about owning it." This change in strategy confirms the broader market realities. Thanks to the integration of robotics with AI, 3D imaging, and decision support systems, the complexity of the processes is now much greater. Patients looking for health care are tending to choose the health care facility based on the qualifications and effectiveness of the treatments provided than on the price.

Vinmec does not only want to be successful as an institution; the company is planning to establish a cooperation network between hospitals, universities, fields, and international partners in Vietnam to promote the development of robotic surgery technologies.
