Second-half masterclass seals historic 4-1 win over Real Betis in final.
Chelsea defeated Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final on Wednesday night thanks to an incredible second- half performance. The match, held at Wroclaw Stadium, was one in which the Premier League side staged a comeback after being 1-0 down at halftime.
Real Betis scored an early goal by Abde Ezzalzouli in the 9th minute. The winger blasted a low, driven shot following a clever cross by Isco. Betis was at ease in the first half and even had a chance to double their advantage, but Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen made a crucial stop to keep them at bay.
The second half, however, told a different story. Chelsea returned with strength and authority, led by the brilliant play of Cole Palmer. The 23-year-old playmaker promptly assisted Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez to set up two goals. Palmer's creativity helped Chelsea win the game, and he was named Player of the Match.
Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo added two more goals in the closing minutes of the match to give the Blues a historic 4-1 victory. It was a second-half performance that left Real Betis with no answers.
With this victory, Chelsea made history by being the first team to win all three of UEFA's top-level competitions: the Champions League, the Europa League, and now the Conference League. They had also won the then-existent Cup Winners' Cup earlier.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca conceded the first half wasn't their finest but was impressed by the reaction. "We went out in the second half with the right mindset," he stated.
Even though the outcome didn't influence qualification for European competitions next season, the win was a source of pride for Chelsea and its supporters, with Betis to use the experience gained from their inaugural European final.
