Strategic center aims to bolster automotive software development for global markets.
Hyundai Mobis has officially launched its integrated software research and development (R&D) center in Hyderabad, India, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion strategy. This new facility, the result of merging two existing centers, is designed to serve as a pivotal software strategy hub, enhancing the company’s capabilities in automotive software development.
Spanning 24,000 square meters in the heart of Hyderabad, often dubbed India’s Silicon Valley, the 10-story building features state-of-the-art research labs, data centers, and collaborative spaces. The center’s strategic location within a tech-savvy commercial area allows Hyundai Mobis to attract top-tier software talent, crucial for advancing its automotive technology portfolio.
With the rapid growth of India’s automotive sector—projected to reach 6.2 million annual car sales by 2028—Hyundai Mobis aims to leverage this dynamic market. The center will focus on developing advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), large display technologies, and level 2 autonomous driving features tailored for both local and global markets.
Hyundai Mobis plans to integrate its R&D efforts from the early stages of new product development, emphasizing software for electric vehicles (EVs) and SUVs, which are increasingly popular in India. The center will also collaborate with local vehicle software companies, fostering an ecosystem that promotes innovation and efficiency.
Jong-keun Lee, Head of Hyundai Mobis Technical Center of India, stated, “With nearly two decades of experience in vehicle development, we’re committed to advancing software technologies that enhance product competitiveness worldwide.”
This move aligns with Hyundai Mobis’s broader strategy to develop a hardware-software integrated platform, supporting the growing trend of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and providing flexible, cost-effective solutions for global automotive partners.
