Charlotte Edwards Leaves Mumbai Indians to Become England Women's Head Coach

Charlotte Edwards departs Mumbai Indians after leading them to two WPL titles, joining England's coaching staff.

Charlotte Edwards, the former Women's Premier League champion and current head coach of England Women has confirmed to leave the Mumbai Indians. The team announced her resignation on social media with a special post and statement after Edwards led MI to the WPL championship in 2023 and 2025. They also wished her luck in her new position with England.

Since the beginning of the WPL in 2023, Edwards has been a crucial member of the MI women's squad. In her first season with the club, she led players like Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt to victory over the Delhi Capitals which earned the team's first title. After helping MI defeat the same opponents in DC in 2025 to become the first team to win two WPL titles, she was once again in a crucial position.

An MI spokesperson expressed that Charlotte Edwards has been a leader who commands immense admiration, appreciation, and respect from the entire OneFamily. The spokesperson highlighted Charlotte’s remarkable accomplishments, including leading the team to win two titles in three years, inspiring the girls to perform their best cricket, and advancing the MI legacy while bringing joy to the MI Paltan. The team expressed their gratitude for her contributions over the past three years and wished her the best for the future.

Edwards has won five Women's Cricket Super League titles with the Southern Vipers, The Hundred with the Southern Brave and two WPL titles with MI during her coaching career. She will be looking to improve the team's recent poor performance in her new position as England coach, having replaced Jon Lewis. Lewis led the England women's team to a group-stage loss in the 2024 T20 World Cup after they lost in the semi-finals of the 2023 competition.
