BYD Unveils Chess Plus Next-Gen Energy Storage System

BYD Energy Storage unveils Chess Plus, a next-gen energy storage system with advanced safety, efficiency, and flexibility.

BYD Energy Storage, a subsidiary of BYD Company Limited, rolled out its next-generation commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage product, Chess Plus, on March 26th. It is designed to solve key issues pertaining to safety, efficiency, and profitability and marks a new standard for energy storage products in an overcrowded market.

Chess Plus combines sophisticated cell-to-system (CTS) protection with BYD's "Thick Blade Battery" cells, featuring ceramic terminals to prevent leakage hazards and improve corrosion resistance. The cells have endured extreme stress tests, including thermal runaway simulation and overcharge restrictions, to ensure their endurance in harsh environments. One of the most impressive features of Chess Plus is its 2-hour fire-resistant battery housing and integrated aerosol fire suppression system, providing improved safety for mission-critical energy storage applications.

The modular design of the system is adaptive, and edge computing provides high-performance real-time SOC optimization and fault prediction. Dual-mode cooling with liquid cooling for batteries and smart forced air cooling for electronics saves 20% auxiliary power consumption and enhances thermal homogeneity. The structure also extends the lifetime of the components by 30%, which is robust and performs in the same manner for over 10,000 cycles.

Chess Plus also features an array of advanced safety components, such as 8.0-magnitude seismic protection, IP55-grade enclosures, and AI-based risk forecasting algorithms. These components make the system perfect for a variety of applications, such as industrial parks, EV charging stations, and microgrids, where energy use is optimized and ROI maximized.
