WAVES 2025’s Unreal Cinematic Challenge invites VFX and gaming creators to showcase talent using Unreal Engine.
The world-renowned World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) brings together global stakeholders, thought leaders, and creative visionaries to define the future of the industry globally while highlighting India's booming media and entertainment sector.
For the Unreal Cinematic Challenge, which will be held at WAVES 2025 in Mumbai in May, the Telangana VFX, Animation, and Gaming Association (TVAGA) have issued a call for entries. Professionals and students alike are encouraged to enter and use Unreal Engine to create immersive cinematic scenes, encouraging creativity and giving artists a stage on which to display their abilities.
A TVAGA statement explained that participants will be given a 10-second base animation sequence to improve using Unreal Engine's Sequencer, also while keeping the provided camera animation. Contestants can add their own characters but must follow the specified limits.
A group of industry professionals will review the finished product along with a screenshot taken from the Unreal Engine viewport. The top finalists, who will be equally divided between professionals and students, will travel to Mumbai for WAVES 2025, where they will compete in real time, create cinematic scenes in an 8-hour challenge, and present their work to a panel of top media and entertainment experts.
It is also said that the Unreal Cinematic Challenge supports the 'Create in India' mission by providing local producers with an exceptional platform by promoting Indian talent internationally and encouraging independence in the production of digital content. The closing date for entries is April 1, 2025. WAVES 2025, which is scheduled for May 1–4, 2025, in Mumbai, will host the final presentations.
