Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Expected to Launch in 2026

Apple's foldable iPhone to feature slim design, advanced hinge, and premium performance

Apple is said to be planning to release its first-ever foldable iPhone in 2026 as it enters the market for foldable smartphones. As reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the phone will have a book-style foldable mechanism similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series of phones instead of the clamshell fold.

The future foldable iPhone is likely to borrow ideas from the reported iPhone 17 Air, which would be Apple's thinnest device yet. Reports indicate that Apple's foldable would be a slim phone, leveraging high-tech materials such as a liquid metal hinge and an aluminum alloy mid-frame to provide durability in addition to flexibility.

Leaked specs suggest a 7.8-inch inner screen combined with a 5.5-inch cover display, enabling users to toggle easily between a compact and expanded view. The device is also reported to feature a side-mounted Touch ID sensor, an improvement that may boost security and convenience. Apple is also rumored to feature a dual rear camera system and a 5,000 mAh battery, which will provide a robust and enduring performance.

But because of the high-grade materials and advanced foldable technology, Apple's foldable iPhone will have a starting price around $2,300. Because of the price point, Apple might initially cap production levels.

With its software and hardware optimizing abilities, Apple's entry into the foldable market can disrupt the competition by giving a refined and high-end version of available foldable smartphones. With 2026 around the corner, additional information regarding the features, launch, and software updates of the foldable iPhone will be known.
