SFSU temporarily closed due to anonymous threat, but lockdown lifted after thorough investigation.
San Francisco State University (SFSU) was put on a temporary lockdown Thursday afternoon after receiving an anonymous threat to the campus. At about 12:30 p.m., university officials issued a shelter-in-place order, instructing people on campus to stay indoors and advising that off-campus to avoid the area. All classes and campus activities were canceled for the rest of the day.
The lockdown lasted for a few hours while University Police and local law enforcement agencies conducted a thorough search of the campus. By 4 p.m., officials confirmed that no credible threat had been found, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted. SFSU officials reassured the campus community that there was no danger to students, faculty, or staff, and normal activities were expected to resume on Friday.
Some of these classes and finals scheduled are the ones that have been called off for the day. Staying in touch with the staff is recommended to reschedule their finals, if appropriate. The university recognizes its inconvenience but said safety issues should be put first for students in this kind of event.
The swift response from the law enforcement and the timely communication from the university ensured that the campus remained safe throughout the afternoon. Although the cause behind the anonymous threat is unknown, the search and subsequent lifting of the lockdown enabled SFSU to get back to normal operations in time.
SFSU officials thanked law enforcement agencies for their support during the investigation and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a safe environment for the entire campus community.
