BPCL Launches Drone-Led Afforestation Initiative

The initiative not only aims to restore forest cover but also seeks to promote environmental stewardship

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has embarked on a pioneering afforestation project in Bihar, utilizing aerial seeding through drones to bolster the state’s green cover. This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, named "Aranya," aims to plant 100,000 seedballs over 50 hectares in three important forest locations.

The project, executed in collaboration with the Bihar government and an NGO partner, will target the Umga Pahadi in the Madanpur Forest of Aurangabad, the Rajauli Forest Area in Nawada, and the Brahmyoni, Dungeshwari, Pretshila, and Barabar Hills in Gaya. These areas have been chosen due to their challenging terrain, which makes traditional reforestation methods difficult. BPCL’s use of drone technology allows for efficient and precise distribution of seedballs in these remote and hard-to-reach areas, significantly enhancing the potential for successful reforestation. The initiative not only aims to restore forest cover but also seeks to promote environmental stewardship and create economic opportunities for local communities. Raman Malik, Head of CSR at BPCL, emphasized the broader impact of the initiative, stating that planting trees is one of the most impactful ways to contribute to environmental sustainability and support local communities. He noted that through projects like Aranya, BPCL not only enhances the green cover but also fosters a sense of responsibility towards nature.

This initiative is a testament to BPCL's commitment to environmental sustainability and its proactive approach to addressing ecological challenges through innovative solutions.
