Asymchem opens a new UK facility to boost pharmaceutical manufacturing, innovation, and workforce expansion.
Asymchem Laboratories (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. recently cut the ribbon to its new European development and pilot manufacturing site at Discovery Park in Sandwich, Kent, UK. 2 August 2024 marks the day with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Dr. Hao Hong as Chairman, Founder, and CEO of Asymchem.
The new location has been set up within existing Pfizer small molecule manufacturing facilities, and it currently operates with 70 members who are split between R&D labs and the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) pilot plant. Most of these employees come from the former Pfizer team. The company will grow its workforce further by the end of the year with an expansion of pilot plant operations.
Asymchem has a reputation for using novel technologies to provide smarter, greener, and more cost-effective manufacturing solutions. As part of its efforts at the new facility, it also aims to enhance its capabilities. By 2025, advanced equipment in the production of peptides and oligonucleotides will be added, coupled with new sustainability initiatives involving continuous flow and biocatalysis technologies.
Dr. Hao Hong expressed his excitement for the new facility and stated that it was a major step toward meeting the increasingly growing demand for pharmaceutical services and supply. "We are continuing a long legacy of manufacturing excellence at Discovery Park, with the location in Kent being ideal for reaching our target markets in Europe," he said.
Discovery Park CEO Mayer Schreiber also welcomed Asymchem's arrival, emphasizing Kent's strategic position for a European headquarters due to its connectivity to Europe and London. Schreiber added, "We are thrilled to see Asymchem join our thriving community at Discovery Park. Many of the team members at Asymchem have been working at Discovery Park for decades, and we’re delighted to continue to support and champion the talent here."
