Rufus, akin to Alexa on Amazon's Echo devices, is designed to handle the complex task of product research
Amazon India has introduced Rufus, its new generative AI-powered assistant, in a beta release on its e-commerce platform. This latest innovation follows the initial launch of Rufus earlier this year in select markets, including the US.
The soft launch of Rufus on the X platform was announced by Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President of Emerging Markets at Amazon, who highlighted the AI assistant's capacity to streamline the shopping process. Rufus, akin to Alexa on Amazon's Echo devices, is designed to handle the complex task of product research, offering users a seamless way to compare different brands and make informed purchasing decisions. Rufus can assist with various shopping tasks, such as finding the best deals on products and suggesting popular items. For example, users can inquire about specific requirements, like "Suggest me a new laptop with 16GB RAM and the latest chipsets," and Rufus will provide a curated list of options. Additionally, Rufus can offer gift recommendations for occasions like Diwali, or quickly provide product details, such as whether a jacket is machine washable.
The AI assistant aims to reduce the time and effort involved in product research, making online shopping more efficient. Rufus is now available to a limited number of users who update their Amazon shopping app. Users can interact with Rufus by tapping an icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the app, which opens a chat dialogue box for instant responses to their queries.
